USCIS Begins Production of Single Employment Authorization and Advance Parole Travel Document

The USCIS has recently announced that it will begin producing a single card to serve as an advance parole travel document and employment authorization document for adjustment of status applicants. Until now, the USCIS and legacy INS issued two separate documents. The advance parole document, which allows a foreign national to leave and reenter the country while the adjustment of status application is pending, was issued on a full sheet of paper in duplicate, whereas the employment authorization document (or "EAD") was issued as a credit card sized plastic document. The new combined document will be the same size as the EAD card, and will serve both purposes. According to the USCIS, the new card will represent a significant improvement over the current paper version of the advance parole which lacks security feature found on the EAD card. The new card can also be issued for a period of up to two years for applicants who are affected by an immigrant visa quota backlog. Previously, the advance parole was issued for only a one year period. The USCIS will continue to issue separate EAD and advance parole documents where these documents are not applied for concurrently. For more information about the new card, please contact our office.
